Himachal Pradesh Rajkot

Rajkot is a significant characteristic feature in the backdrop of Indian Independence movement. It is a land of Mahatma Gandhi. The city is situated on the banks of the Aji River and Niari River. Since its foundation the city saw the rules of many different rulers.

Climate

The semiarid climate of Rajkot faces hot, dry summers and wet monsoon. The average temperature revolves around 20�C. Rajkot is very sensitive to geological changes and thus sees many abrupt weather conditions every now and then. Cyclones and thunderstorms are the most important weather phenomena that are frequently occurs here. The temperature ranges between 24�C and 42�C during summer and In the winter, Rajkot temperature varies between 10�C and 22�C. The winters are very pleasant and are the right time for tourism.

Kaba Gandhi's No Delo

It is the ancestral home and now a museum named 'Gandhi Smriti'. The house is named Kaba no delo means Kaba Gandhi's house after the name of Gandhiji's father Karamchand Uttanchand Gandhi who was popularly known as Kaba Gandhi. The memorial museum contains photographs and personal memorabilia of Gandhi. The arched pathway leads you where you will have a sneak peek into Gandhi's life through beautiful photo essay.

Jubilee Garden

The Jubilee Garden is an important recreational point of Rajkot located in the heart of the city. This beautiful large and open park area has many imperative monuments of colonial era like the Connaught Hall.

Watson Museum and Library

Watson Museum and Library located in the Jubilee Gardens is a depiction of cultural heritage of Saurashtra. The Museum exhibits the replicas of artifacts of Monhenjodaro times. The museum also displays the carvings from 13th century, silverware, textiles, many portraits, marble statute of Queen Victoria and pictures of royal family. This museum was built in honour of Colonel John Watson.

Rotary Dolls Museum

The Rotary Dolls Museum of Rajkot gives an idea about ethnic unique worldly tradition through 1400 dolls from all over the globe. The concept arose from the mind of a Rotarian Mr. Deepak Agarwal with the vision of love, care and concern, other than entertainment for children. This idea took concrete form in 2001. The elders also find it entertaining and learning as well.

Rashtriya Shala

During Non-Violent Movement people of India boycotted government machinery, judiciary and educational institutions too as Non-Cooperation with the Government and from the clutches of the British Rule. So Mahatma Gandhi took the initiative and first started Gujarat Vidyapith at Ahmedabad to impart education on new National Concepts. Rastriya Shala is one among those institutions that incepted on February 21, 1921.

Rajkot has many libraries which has rich collection of books and documents. Major libraries of Rajkot are Lang Library, G.T. Sheth Library and Rotary Midtown Library.

Other places to see

Wankaner Palace, beautiful intricately carved Jagat Mandir dedicated to Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, picturesque picnic spot Lal Pari Lake and Randera, Aji Dam, and numerous other national landmarks in the city are places to be seen.
